Flying Saw Cutting Machine

Flying saw is one of the key equipments in welded pipe production line, its main role is to complete the cut-off in the process of continuous production of pipe, so as to ensure the production efficiency and product quality.

New Victor company has two types of flying saws for you to choose from: cold saw and hot saw.

The working principle of a flying saw

1. Pipe detection and synchronization

  • The flying saw detects the position and speed of the welded pipe through sensors.
  • The system calculates the acceleration and running path of the flying saw control device according to the motion status of the welded pipe in order to synchronize the motion with the welded pipe.

2. Synchronized tracking

  • The cutting carriage of the flying saw is driven by the slave system to accelerate to the speed operation of the welding pipe and keep synchronized operation for a period of time.
  • During the synchronization phase, the cutting tool applies steady pressure on the pipe in preparation for the cutting operation.

3. Cutting operation

  • When the trolley and the welded pipe are synchronized, the flying saw starts the saw blade to complete the cutting of the pipe.
  • According to the demand, the cutting form can be divided into rotary cutting (for large diameter pipe) and slip cutting (for small diameter pipe).

4. Return

After cutting is completed, the flying saw carriage returns to the initial installation and waits for the next cutting operation.

Difference between cold sawing and hot sawing

1. Cutting method

  • Cold sawing finish: Cold sawing uses mechanical force for cutting, which is suitable for precision cutting. Through the saw blade and workpiece contact, cutting, can avoid material deformation and heat-affected areas.
  • Hot sawing: hot sawing softens or melts the metal material through high temperature, and the cutting process is rough, which usually produces a large heat-affected zone, and is suitable for some applications that do not require high cutting precision.

2. Applicable materials

  • Cold sawing: applicable to a variety of metals, including steel, aluminum, copper, etc., especially in the need for workpiece cutting and surface finish is widely used in the occasion.
  • Hot sawing: mainly used for harder or difficult to cut through conventional cold cutting methods of materials, such as certain types of steel, alloys and so on.

3. Cutting accuracy

  • Cold sawing: As there is no excessive temperature influence during the work process, the cutting accuracy is higher, usually able to achieve smaller cutting tolerances.
  • Hot saw: hot saw cutting process, due to the influence of temperature, cutting accuracy is lower, the surface after cutting may appear larger deformation or oxidation layer.

4. Surface quality

  • Cold sawing: cold sawing can maintain a high surface quality, after cutting the metal surface is smooth, no heat-affected zone, will not produce obvious oxides.
  • Hot sawing: due to high-temperature treatment, hot sawing usually produces a more obvious oxidized layer on the cutting surface after cutting, and the surface quality is fluorescent.
